I stood and waited at the old worn road,
Meet me halfway, and we will continue together,
My heart stood it’s silent vigil, looking hopefully down the path,
Silently I reassured it that you were different, you would come,
My heart starts beating just a little faster at the sound of footsteps on this road,
Another comes along, takes my heart for fodder,
Set in me another flame, to lick, and torment, and hate,
He continues right on, over my heart, leaving broken shambles yet again,
Slowly I reach down and sift through the pieces, making all right, once again,
And so my heart healed and grew into love once more,
I stood and waited at that old worn road,
Meet me half way, and we will continue together.
I finally sat down on that old worn road,
The path still lies empty at my feet,
My heart shies away, and hides in the bushes, at the sound of footsteps once more,
Another rounds the bend, reassurance and lust in his eyes,
My heart skips a beat as he reaches out and takes it,
His demanding eyes and forceful touch slowly crumbles my heart to dust,
He laughs as I scream, oh the pain you have caused!
I lean forward and take up all the tiny fragments in my hand,
But it is impossible to gather them all again,
Slowly I begin the process once more, of vigilantly rebuilding my heart,
I finally sat down on that old worn road,
The path still lies empty at my feet.
I silently laid my head down to rest, on that old worn road,
Ready to slip into an eternal sleep, I bade the world a final farewell,
My shabby little heart screeched and ran far away,
The sound footsteps becoming thunderous on that little-known path,
I sighed and rolled over, too tired even to face this new foe,
A gentle hand reached down and touched me,
Afraid once more, I cringed and skittered away,
But then he chased after me, and lifted me up,
He took my shabby little heart and made it new once again,
I have finally come my daughter, my love, came the huge, strong voice,
I silently laid my head down to rest, on that old worn road,
Ready to slip into an eternal sleep, I bade the world farewell.
